Drive Technology for KR Agilus

KR AGILUS robots from KUKA are driven by SIGMATEK

Lamprechtshausen/Augsburg. With the KR AGILUS Small Robot series from KUKA Roboter GmbH in Augsburg, a new, extremely compact and highly precise drive concept was realized in cooperation with the automation specialist SIGMATEK.

The small robots of the KR AGILUS series are compact, precise, agile and fast. With the new drive concept for the robot family, KUKA relies on the technical expertise from SIGMATEK. The motto "Full function in minimum space" also applies for the drive technology with 6-axis application.

"In close coordination with KUKA Roboter GmbH, we have expanded and optimized the DIAS Drive 100 drive concept for the special demands of robotics", explains Andreas Melkus, General Manager Development and Sales at SIGMATEK.

In cooperation with KUKA Roboter, the motor control algorithm was developed further and designed exactly for the requirements of the KR AGILUS with focus on precision and dynamics. A challenge was modifying the drive technology to the compact dimensions of the small KR C4 compact control. In this combination, it was also possible to meet the highest performance demands with a single-phase power supply for all six axes. Whereby the KR AGILUS series can now be used in the 110 V to 240 V range.

“Through close cooperation with SIGMATEK and their high flexibility and technical competence, we were able to implement the challenging design for a drive technology solution for small robotics in a short time", explains Christoph Schaible, Product Manager for small robots at KUKA Roboter.
